The Nimble Cook Workshop
Cooking classes personalized to you, with an focus on strong technique, improvisation, and zero waste.
The Nimble Cook Workshop
Where it all began.
In 2010, a groundbreaking cooking class grew out of a small Brooklyn apartment kitchen. “The Workshop,” as it was known, taught hundreds of home cooks how to be more resourceful, creative, and confident in the kitchen. It quickly garnered national recognition and launched Purple Kale Kitchenworks into the spotlight. Now, it’s back.
In The Workshop, you’ll learn how to adapt the systems and strategies of the restaurant world to the home, while tweaking them to the hiccups of everyday life.
How does this work?
In this class, you’ll learn how to flip the whole process of making a meal on its head. Rather than starting with a recipe, for which we need to gather ingredients, we start with the ingredients themselves. We use these ingredients—in whatever amount we have, with whatever time and skill we have—to make not one single, specific dish, but many different dishes.
This approach gives us the best shot at cooking off-the-cuff, helping us waste less food, time, and energy, and raising our standards for how we eat, everyday.
Like all of Purple Kale Kitchenworks’ classes, The Workshop is taught by chef/owner Ronna Welsh.
In this class, you’ll learn:
The pitfalls of meal planning.
How to create Starting Points, the key to being more nimble in the kitchen.
Sustainable ways to cut down on food waste.
How to use your favorite recipes more effectively.
Three steps to improvising a dish.
How to improvise your own pasta and pan sauces.
About creating a personalized pantry.
Each class works with a unique and large set of ingredients that meets most dietary preferences. We can accommodate food allergies; please reach out to us directly.
